I can deal with the Velcro, but this Tom Tom is pissing me off. It won't allow me to upload routes, and it's driving me nuts. I'm about to pitch it and get a Nuvi or something.
They all kinda suck. All in all I liked my TomTom but it would tell me to turn onto roads that didn't exist... ever. the Garmin Nuvi has been great but the TomTom was easier to use. After all said and done I probably should have just gone with the motorcycle specific 550 or 660.
I didn't like mine on the handlebars either but didn't want to put a hole in the inner fairing so mounted it a little differently. I have the two bag windshield mount and bolted the ball right to the space between the two bags. Placed two rubber bumpers under the metal where it can contact the dash on vibration and there it sits for nearly two years. I thought I was going to have to brace the metal but I've checked it every time I have the outer fairing off and absolutely no problems. I get a little vibration at idle but it works great while riding and it is perfectly placed so I don't have to avert my eyes that much. I'm at work otherwise I'd post a pic.

I have wanted to do this install as well as I refuse to have anything extra hanging off of my handlebars... I first saw this type of install @ dealer in Orlando... No shaking at idle or going down the road - purchasing in about 4 months
I did the same - much safer / easier to view. I can read the screen without my prescription riding glasses. When it was on the handlebar I couldn't. And there is no problem with stressing or cracking the fairing.
The only negative might be that it does vibrate at idle but anything above it smooths right out.
I bought this mount and which used original garmin cradle, has 3m sticky backing and is very well secured. No holes and I can remove if needed later. Only vibration is at idle.

Great set up. I want do the same with an iPhone 5. It fits nicely with a tweeter bar. What company did you purchase the mount from. Did it come with screws to mount or did you fabricate that?
