Default Do I pull the trigger or wait?

I have found a bike I really like (V-Star 1300) but know it's not a Road King. This bike fits the budget, me, and gets me back to riding. I just can't float a $300 payment right now on a King. That's more than either vehicle.

What do I do; buy the Star or wait for the King?

FYI I might be able to turn that title into a sermon. Inspiration is everywhere.

Please read last comment.

Yamaha makes good bikes so you can be sure that the V-Star is going to run right straight off the dealer floor and give you no problems. But the main question is, will you stay satisfied with it. If so, go for it. But if you have your doubts you might want to shop around for a used Road King that fits your budget.

i bought a new roadliner in 06, the first year they came out and it was a good bike. then the itch for options came along. i had the option of bolting on a yamaha windshield and a yamaha accessory seat which was made by corbin for yamaha. end of story. yamaha's sales pitch at the time was "we make it, you make it your own" okay fine, but without any parts availability and no parts made for it turned the yamaha deal sour in a hurry. i traded it off for a dyna, and have been very happy with every harley i've owned. you may want to consider a used harley, the depreciation has already taken place so you'll not take such a hit if you decide to trade it off or sell it. harleys just seem to have character or soul that the other bikes cannot duplicate. get a used roadking if that's the model you're after. it's your money.

My thoughts exactly. If its a pre owned Yamaha you are talking about, get it for the best deal possible and sell it next year for what ya paid for it. Just get out there and RIDE....

My buddy bought his V-Star first then 2 years later came into some extra cash and bought his RK Custom. He still rides the Star almost as much as the King. If ya want to ride now, buy what you can afford and save for what ya want.

There are Harleys out there priced for everyone, what's your budget? Buying new or used? There are RK's in the local newspaper selling for less than $10K (03', 04' w/756 mi.) with BO in the ad.

This was wife's 05 VStar (sold and gone now in favor of her 07 RKC) and I wish I had pic's of my 01 Road Star in this computer......had it really loaded up with performance mods and chrome, bars, seat upgrades. Lot's of on-line goodies for the Star's and they were very strong trouble free bikes.

We are now solid HD believers and I do not see us on any other cruisers but I do not regret the Star years. Tough call only you can make.

I have a V-star as well as two Harleys and there is a lot to be said about getting accessories for Harley vs the V-star. The Yamaha dealers don't stock anything, you have to order and wait. With the Harley you just go get it.

If you are not on a scooter now and the V-star will get you rolling, go for it. There will be plenty of Road Kings for sale when you are ready for one. The V-stars are great bikes and will give you good service. If you can, get a road star 1700 instead of the 1300. They have a 47degree push rod actuated air cooled engine and are really close in sound to a Harley.
