Default Road King help

Howdy folks,
I just got my first Road King (2005 custom w/1800 miles). I really dont like the handle bars. I really want 16" apes but I cant afford it right now. I was hoping yall could help out with some info. What are some options for new bars without having to get new cables? My buddy has a set of stock bars off a 2007 street bob that he will give me. But I dont know if they will fit. Any suggestions that you have will be greatly appreciated. I cant wait to rack up the miles on this bike.
Thanks.

My suggestion would be to wait if you want apes, and only do the job once. The heritage bars fit without having to change anything, but you'll probably end up swapping them again to put what you really want on the bike anyway. I did 14"'s on mine and couldn't be happier.

i put 13 inch ape hangers on my 2006 roadking and had to change the throttle cables and the clutch cable, i went with the 4 inches over cables from harley, it depends to on how wide the bars are that you are gonna use, mine are 34 wide

The Heritage bars would work for now. It will be a much better ride and give you time to save for 16s. I am getting all my stuff in for mine. Last parts will be here monday. I got Wild One 509s. I have an 07 FLHR, everything new.

Dawg nailed it as far as "interim" bars.

Thanks for all the help guys. I think I might try the heritage bars for now. Has anyone tried using street bars on a RK?
