For the trans, most guys go to a heavier weight, like 75-90. As the engine and primary, changing from Amsoil to Mobil 1, which is 4.99 right now at NAPA for the whole month,
Crap... I just bought mobil1 for $9 something qt. at the autozone....just my luck..
Well, since you asked. I have the same bike as you and it gets hot here in Kansas too with unbelievable humidity. We have our 100 + days. Any synthetic is going to do a better job for you in the heat than Dino Oil. My personal opinion after reading all the threads and using these products is this. Mobil 1 20w50 in the motor, Redline in the tranny and Formula + or Mobil 1 in the primary.
Your bike is under warranty so save yourself any out of coverage tap dancing and use what ever your manual says. I say that because depending on the year bike, there are differences on the amount of fluid oz's needed. The weight of the oil is more important than the brand from a warranty perspective.
Be careful about not using motorcycle intended products. the chemical make up of auto oil is different from motorcycle oil. also , be careful about using auto gear oil in the final drive...gpl5 rated gear oil will cause corrosion in your bikes non ferrous metals.
I have a 2011 Limited and would like to find out what type of oil I need to do an oil change. Not wanting to start a debate on what the best brand of oil is, and I know what to put in the engine, I am just not sure what type to use in the primary and transmission. My previous bikes have been metric, so one oil covered the crankcase, clutch and tranny. When the dealer did my 1000 mile service, they used the same oil (syn3) in all 3 places.
I live in Phoenix, and it's 106° here today and it hasn't started getting "hot" yet, so if that is a factor, I'd like to know as well. Thanks.
I'm in Las Vegas (same weather as you) and use the Syn3 in all three holes. I now have over 25,000 miles and no issues.
Amsoil in all 3 holes............ 3 bikes, thousands upon thousands of miles on all 3.....Nary
a oil related problem..... Now what do you think I'm goin to recommend as far as oil goes?
AMSOIL works for me.......................hdman
