As much as I think Arai are over priced, I'm loving my Profile. It's the most comfortable helmet I've ever worn. The Seer half lid is nice for short trips. I can ride all day with the FF and am not near as spent as the open face.

You might want to check out the Nolan N43 Trilogy helmet - I love my half helmet yet I think the Nolan is a good compromise since it is sort of a faux full-face meaning the chin bar is minimal AND removable. The chin bar is really very non-restrictive - you hardly know it's there and it makes talking to people you ride with much easier than a traditional full-face. It also has a retractable sun visor and removable face shield. Also, it is one of my favorite looking helmets that I wear.

I also have the HJC IS-33 and like it but the tinted inner shield is not very dark and often need sunglasses also on bright days or when riding into a sunset. Have the modular IS max and like it also. I believe the IS-33 is the same shell as the IS-max modular

Whatever helmet you wear, you should try earplugs too. You will be much less fatigued at the end of your trip if you use earplugs.
I choose a FF and custom molded earbuds for tunes and communication.

I have a Harley 1/2 helmet that has a small visor held on by 3 screws. When it rains hard I pull over, pop the visor off and put on a clear shield that covers most of my face. I keep it in my side bag. I do wear ear plugs on long rides though.
I've tried full and 3/4 helmets and some noises seems to reverberate up inside them. I like the 1/2 the best.

Thank you all for the good advise. I'm pretty much convinced that a new helmet is in my imediate future.

I bought a HJC IS-33 and didn't like the wind buffeting I got from the road king. The helmet was about 3/4" higher than my other helmet and caught the wind coming over the windshield. The top of the helmet has some goofy design that I think was grabbing the wind and making it shake. I have my windshield just high enough to see over. If you look through the windshield or don't use a windshield at all it might work just fine. I bought it because of the flip down sun visor which worked well but I couldn't read road signs because my head was shaking so bad. I currently use a Fulmer 655 and it works great. No buffeting and the flip down shield is great when it rains. I gave the HJC away and felt bad about it.

Had a 1/2 helmet but just switched to this Scorpion 900, taking a 3 week trip in Aug and this was a great choice. http://www.motorcycle-superstore.com...er-Helmet.aspx

I like the fact that it is full face but the flip up feature is great when you stop for gas or need to talk you can just flip it up in a second. Also has a shaded visor on the inside, air pump for ultimate fit. Got mine on e-bay for 185.00 Good luck and have a safe trip!

I have the HJC IS-Max modular and the wife has the IS-33 because she feels the modular is to constricting when closed. We love them. This is my second HJC modular.

+++++++++++++++ on the Arai Profile, yup it is full face and I am in AZ and cross TX at least two times each summer.

As for heat, my silver ff is cooler than any black helmet regardless of the size. Don't even have to put sunblock on my mug. Keeps the blast furnace off my face.
