Default yet another SERT question!!

Hey All

Been viewing alot of questions regarding the SERT and SEST but have yet to find an answer to my problem, and I apologize in advance if this has in fact been answered previously.

Here's my issue, I'm straddling an 07 Road king Custom, purchased new and shortly there after got myself a SERT (32114-04A, thats a SUBA #, date 09/06/07) until now, I have had the dealer tune my ECM for me after my mods, but have decided that it would be much cheaper for me to just do it myself...So

I ordered the cables, the software, and of-course the handy-dandy instructional DVD. When I received this, all the software and cables had "Super-Tuner" written on them. So, I asked those that should know at the dealership, if this was compatible with my SERT, they all hhhmmed, about it, did some looking in books, and then said yeah, its all compatible.

Once I got home, I noticed that the cables did not match my dongle, my dongle has 2- 9 pin serial ports on it, one on either side, 1 male and 1 female. These cables are 1-9pin serial (for connecting to my DLC which is cool) and 1 USB( not so cool). So I thought, okay, I'll just get myself a serial to USB and I'm good to go. Not the case, Laptop wont see the ride. So I looked into the tech tips that are in the software, and that tells me that the SEST files and the SERT files are not compatible, not sure if that's why it wont sync or not, but it does raise more concerns.

These issues are compounded by the fact that the dealer cannot find any PN's for anything related to my SERT, ref, software or cabling. According to them, SE no longer makes anything for this tuner, which wouldn't surprise me cuz HD loves to soak people for money where ever they can, ( sure you can buy passing lamps for 100 bucks, but the mounting brackets you need to put them on are 300 bucks..lol)

So after that long winded speech, my questions are this, Does the SEST support the older SERT?, and does HD still make cabling and software for the older SERT and if so what are the PN's. I really don't want to have to buy the SEST since I already spent $500 (at the time) on my SERT.

Thanks gang for any info you can share.

The SEST is made by SPX Kent Moore. The SERT you have was made by TTS. The cables you have bought will not work with the SERT. You can get the cables from TTS. You can go to the TTS web site and download the SERT qualifier. http://www.mastertune.net/SERTUpgrade.html If your SERT qualilies it can be upgraded to the newer TTS for $100. This will give you the the ability to do your own tuning and there is a ton of internet support. You will then have the best tuning device made for your bike. You can download the SERT program and calibrations here http://www.sendspace.com/file/q7d973 but you will not have the ability to tune the bike yourself.

SEST is the SE Street Performance Tuner and is comparible to the Stage 1 download. It allows the dealer to download canned profiles from HD. It does not allow you to tune/program the bike.

My wife's 08 has a SERT and my RK has a SEPST; the cables are different.

The SE Pro Super Tuner (SEPST) is the upgraded version of the SERT. The SE Pro Super Tuner Training DVD (32101-10) and the SE Pro Super Tuner Software with Smart-Tune (32111-11) works with both the SERT and SEPST.

The SEST & SEPST cables are 32184-08A.
The SERT cables are/were 32108-06 and were listed on Surdyke & Latus HD.

Hopes this helps.

The SERT and SESPT are made by two different companies. When you hit the about tab in help this is what you will see. The SERT has no button on the dongle. The SERT was made and is still owned by "The Turbo Shop" (TTS).

Bait56 - does that imply that if I want the HD Stage 1 Download (which used to cost about $150), that I have to buy the SEST and then the Download? That's expensive!

Sounds like you got good advice, especially the upgrade possibility.

I'm running the SESPT and have applied the download to my bike myself (I'm running the SE slip on and the ventilator a/c). It did make a difference in the way my bike runs. I had the slip on (Nightstick, 2-1 slip on) before getting the SESPT, and the bike ran fine, but once I updated the a/c and applied the download the bike ran noticeably better.

I agreed with you, doesn't make sense to pay the dealership to do that if you're just making a minor change. If I ever make a major change to the bike (new pipes, cams, etc.), I may still take the bike somewhere for a tune. Maybe I'll attempt it myself first, but want to make sure I understand all the settings before tackling anything major by myself. At least I have that option.

You can still get the download w/o purchasing the SEST.

+1 on this advice. I upgraded to the TTS on my tuner's advice. He uses many different tuners and he prefers the TTS.

Dennis Kirk also has the the cables you are looking for cheaper than TTS's website.
