First, you ought to be thanked for taking care of your wife - Good for both of you. Second, your heart is set on the RKC and I am strongly advising you to buy your dream bike and don't second-guess your way out of it. My first bike, after many, many years away from riding, was a Road King Classic. I had first-bike jitters for a couple weeks....but I assure you that I would have felt the same insecurities whether it was a 250cc Honda or the Road King. I'm also about the same size as you and I've never felt the bike was too big for me or my level of experience.

The RKC is truly a bike that'll help your spirit run free. The nostalgic appearance of the RKC speaks to the heart of the old-school, mature rider. Look at it this way, if you buy something less than the Classic, you'll regret it every time you see one going by you on the road. Get out, buy it and go have some fun.

I'm 6'1" and 270 I bought a softail first but really didn't care for the ride as it wasn't what I wanted for travelling. So I took the hit and went RKC. My dealer set me up on a ride and that was it for me. Get what you want, if you're like the rest of us you'll wish you had if you don't.
On Monday when you rent take out the sporty or the dyna first for a long ride. Then take out the RKC, you'll be glad you did and it will help solidify your decision.
Best wishes to you and you enjoy your ride.

Default What wonderful people are here!

A big thanks again to everyone. I rent a RKC Monday. I'll set my sights on a $2k discount. I have decided RKC for me. I always wanted one. At 63, I don't have time to worry about what I should have bought. I love this forum and will be active. Life really is meant to enjoy!

My first Harley was a Road King. I initially thought i'd go with a FatBoy, but when it came time, went with the Road King. Only thing that ever bothers me is when people assume the road king is a smaller bike than the ultras because i often ride withouth the tour pack, etc.

Its all about getting comfortable on what you are riding, so if its too much bike is really up to you!

John, you made a wise choice. I bought my first Harley 3 years ago and damn glad I got the Road King Classic. I bought it used and I have ridden it 36,000 miles since I purchased it. I put 2000 miles on it the first week I had it and I was apprehensive for about the first 50 miles. Just relax and let the King do all the work.

John - welcome aboard the HDForum ...

Condolences on your loss ...

... and congrats on your new bike ....

I would've recommended trying to get a deal on a 'garage queen' ... like the guy who bought this ...

... then turned around and sold it for only a $1,000 less ... great story ....

Hope you enjoy the new RKC and stick around on the forum ... to encourage the next guy ....

Also ... surprised no one has said it ... post pics of your new bike ...! (Hahaha ... one post too late ...!)
