Ditto on using Pledge. In fact, Pledge is just plain great for the entire bike. I've used Hondaline spray cleaner for years but Pledge works much better and it's lots cheaper. I use Lemon Pledge, along with cloth diapers I got at Wal-Mart and finish up with microfiber towels. In fact, now that I've started using Pledge I doubt I will do much washing of the bike using a bucket and rag. The Pledge route is just so much faster and better. Plus, you don't have to worry about water spots on everything.
Bonus tip...get a pack of the Pledge wipes and keep them and a microfiber towel in your saddlebag. They are great for quick cleanups...especially the windshield and fairing. They really get the bugs off. You get 18 in a pack for less than 3 bucks. That's a lot of cleaning while on the road.
If I am washing the bike I use fabric softener sheets, dip them in the bucket of soapy water use it to wash the bike, it washes the bugs right off. Doesnt scratch the paint either. Learned this from washing my 5th wheel camper (the biggest but collector of all) worked like a charm.
Soak a couple of towels in warm water, wring them out , and then place on fairing and windshield. Let sit 5 minutes, then wipe and dry with microfiber cloth.
My former father-in-law showed my this trick for windshields. Works great every time and no scratches.
I use Bugslide, and it is a bit on the $ side, compared to the aformentioned, but works fairly well.
I have not used pledge, peroxide, or fabric sheets, but am sure that they also remove bugs fairly effortlessly.
