It's very individual thing for me yes windshield can be too high so I use 9 1/2" and for my wife stock shield wasn't tall enough by the way we are both 5'9". She like to hide behind it and I like see above it.

If you use a windshield that you can just see over you will have the greatest amount of reduced buffeting off the top of your helmet and you will still be able to see the road if you ever have to ride in the fog and your windshield fogs up. A fogged windshield doesn't happen very often but it does happen.

I bought a wind vest to and I am waiting for it to arrive, but if you look on the website it actually says you have to measure because you can get one to high...

I look just over my windshield if I sit straight and tall, but, when I relax I look thru it. Is that bad?

Yes it is possible. The straight line wind coming over the top usually doesn't cause buffeting. Look at how many bikes are on the road with no shield.
Usually it is the air flowing from underneath or the sides.

I like to have a W/S just tall enough to see over it, but at the same time be able to duck under it if need be.
Mine hits between my chin and lips which for me, I think is about right..

I'm in a quandry over this right now too. Had my seat cut down by MCC and now I look through my shield unless I sit very straight up. Looking through the edge of the shield makes me slouch down to see rather then look at the edge. For any that have cut their shield...is it really doable? I have watched the youtube video of it but still a bit sceered to take power tools to my shield. Got laid off last week and can't spring for a new shield if I fark it up.

Just talked to ClearView shields today, they said park bike on level ground, upright place an object on the ground 50 feet away, the right shield will have you looking just over the top to see object.

asm - I've cut two shields with no problems. I'm not sure what tool they use in the youtube video, but I use a Craftsman rotary cutting tool. Its just like a Dremel, but about 3x the size and uses extremely high RPMs. Works like a charm. Hardest part for me was steadying the shield as I cut.
