Default New Road King, windshield question

Hi all.
Just came home with a new FLHR and after the salesman gave the walk-around I thought I knew everything. He removed the shield and replaced it within seconds. I'm getting pretty good at it but for the life of me, what is the two little curly bent wires that are bolted to the shields framework? What do they do, they don't latch anything or guide any handlebar wires? Can I take them off, they're fugly?
Thanks

Took mine off, looks better and easier to clean. They are a **** poor attempt at assisting you to pull the shield into place with a false hope of security.

They are there to drive you crazy and make you spend every waking moment trying to figure out how to remove them.

When I bought my 2009 RK the salesman didn't know what purpose these wires were did either...thought of taking them off but decided to leave them on to keep the bike stock other then adding bling as I go along.

Their suppose to hold the windshield in place. They bend out of position pretty easily but if their in the right position they should have to be pulled up to remove the windshield. I was reading a thread not too long ago where a strong wind blew someone's windshield off the bike while it was parked, so I've been making sure the wires are in the proper place when I put the windshield on.

Invest 50 bucks in the Brukus windshield secure system. Keeps honest people honest and you never have to worry about your windshield flying off when your biked is parked outside during thunderstorm. Yeah ask me how I know about that ! Only adds about 5 minutes to the time it takes to remove the windshield.

I keep the curly thingy's on mine. Adjusted right they keep the shield from blowing off when parked if a good strong wind comes up.

I would have to see that to believe it. You can pull on the top of the shield and those wires just ride right up and over.
