I definitely prefr the toe shift.....with the heal, you have to use the whole leg to lift the foot. It gets tiresome after a while. I tried it for a day just to see, and my calf was a bit sore by the end of the ride.
Just bought my first H-D. RK 05. Seems to me the heel-toe shifter is adjustable simply by removing the set screw. I had a v-star 1100 w/ heel-toe shifter which was very comfortable.
I have had my RK for 36 hours and haven't played with it yet. My toes are two tall the toe shifter and same problem as all of you on the heel shifter.
An added plus, when I stripped the toe shifter off in the middle of nowhere, I was able to pull the heal shifter, reverse it, put it on the toe and get back on the road in 20 minutes. If I had only the toe, it would have been a vise grip, or a tow. Moral of the story, with a heel and toe, you also carry your own spare parts.
Simple fix to the leg lifting exercise discussed above. Remove the set screw holding the heel shifter in place....remove shifter and reinstall at the lower, more comfortable position.
