Heel Shift or Toe Shift?
I use the heel-toe on my Ultra. I had one on my Shadow ACE-T and just got used to it. I also experienced the toe shifter stripping out and just turned the heel shifter around. I was checking out my bike last night and found the toe shifter was working loose again. I tightened up the bolt some, and it felt fine again. I suppose if it works loose again, I'll put some locktite on the threads.
It really ruins your riding day if you strip out your toe shifter and you don't have a backup ( heel shifter ) or a pair of vise grips. If your riding with a group, you can beg for somebody's heel shifter!

I use both depending on which boot I'm wearing. Normal riding boots (Cruiserworks) I use the toe only but with dress boots I use the heel to keep from messing up the toe area. I wouldn't know how to act without a heel shifter...
I use the heel shifter all the time to upshift. I have never had a problem with pants or boots getting caught on it, and find it to be more comfortable to use than the toe shifter (for upshifting, obviously).
