Default Shocks on the Street Glide

I need to know what is the max PSI on a set of 2008 Street Glide shocks? I have a set but when I put them on my 2008 RG it bottoms on hard bumps. I dont see why it would since they came off of a 2008 SG and they don't bottom out when they hit bumps. My buddie has a 2011 SG and his manual says his max is 50psi. So I thought maybe the shorter SG shocks take more air to keep them from bottoming out on a 2008 like on the 2011's. That would make more sense to me. Somone give me the low down on the difference between the 2008 SG shocks VS 2008 RG shocks, and the 2011 SG Shocks VS 2011 RGC shocks.

I think the SG uses a shock thats 12" from center hole to center hole and the other members of the touring family use a 13" from center hole to center hole shock. Becareful with adding a lowering kit to touring models and also at the same time adding SG shocks.

On the older bikes, the max on the 13" shocks (Electra Glide, Road Glide) was 35psi if I recall correctly.

Max inflation on the older 12" shocks (Street Glide) is 50psi.

Max inflation on all 2009-up shocks is 50psi.

OK - since you brought up shocks, I would recommend that you consider swapping out the shock oil in favor of a heavier oil, its works just like the front fork oil swap. I find it to have better and smoother operation. Search for threads on the forum for details. I'll look here in a bit and post a link if I recall one.

Can't really help much on the bottoming out other than the fact that you need to be sure that the air pressure you think you have is staying in the shocks and is in 'both' shocks. Double check your plumbing, you should have cut the tubing back just a bit (1/4") so there is 'new' tube in the fittings.

Finally, you changed out the shocks... which makes me wonder about what may have happened to them before you got them - do they even have the correct oil amount in them, some may have leaked out or have been drained out by the previous owner. These shocks work as an air over oil system - so if there is no oil or the incorrect amount of oil, they may not function properly. I remember having to measure carefully, the amount of oil, when I changed mine oil out to the heavier weight.

That said - I'm a 300+ lb guy, and with me and momma on board I run only 25-30 psi with the heavy oil, something like 40 psi with the old standard oil. My opinion is that this isn't a psi issue, more likely: oil amount, plumbing or damage internally in the shock.

Found it -

Well I played it smart and called the dealer, sure enough this is what he told me. So the shocks I bought have about 75mi on them,I bought them from a friend after I helped him take them off his bike and install air bags. He just could not find his manual. But this is what I was told about shocks on the SG & RG from 2008 thru 2011.
Thanks Guys
