Hi all, new guy here so please bear with me if this has been asked before. I am considering buying an 04 ElectraGlide Classic. The bike has a set of Screamin Eagle slip on mufflers with the stock head pipes. I have heard that the crossover pipe gets extremly hot and scalds the back of your left thigh while riding. Has anyone else heard of this or had it happen? Should I go with a set of true duals? Im not too concerned with performance, the screamin eagles are good enough for that. I also dont want it to be really loud. The Screamin Eagles are loud enough for me too. I will be carrying a passenger sometimes too. Any info will be helpful.
You are going to feel heat on the underside of your right thigh. It is really bad in traffic. True duals will help, but you loose some low end. Have not tried a 2 in 1, but most of what I have read indicates they will help. The 2 in 1 is also supposed to help performance.
I wouldnt worry about it. It is only HOT HOT in the summer time sitting in a long line of traffic or a long light. Get it and ride it, then you decide.
I bought a roadking back in 02 that I ran stock exhaust on for about a year--road it threw 115 degree weather..like the others says..it does get hot when sitting in traffic, etc...but I never had , quote, burns from it...And my butt has sat for a long timer in traffic..heck if its gets that bad, shut the bike off right. True duals do help with less heat...but its just opinion. I've ran every type exhaust out there from
2 into 1 to true duals, now I'm running Bassani Pro streets. They come out the right side only and heat isnt a issue to me with any of them.
TOOLBOX
Yes the cross over does get warm.....especially for the passenger....I ride two up....and the heat is there.
Put on V&N dresser duals with V&N slip-on ovals.....heat down emmensly. I also obtain thru a friend
a heat shield that over hangs the seat....It actually mounts under the seat.....sorry no pic...but if interested
can get a pic and the dealer that makes them. It really does work.
Oh forgot to say the the ride is a 2004 EGC (FLHTC)
Only bad in slow moving traffic. The passenger's left foot can get hot rolling down the road, with stock headers. Make sure they wear good riding boots.
Boe,
I have any 01 Ultra Classic. My wife and I enjoy riding alot . On trip back from Maggie Valley this last summer my wifes right ankle got burned from the radiant heat coming from the cross over pipe. I just installed V&HDuels with Screaming Eagle mufflers and turn down. It is somewhat louder when you get on it, but for the most part while cruising it sound good. Hope this helps.
I also noticed a significant decrease in heat when I tuned the motor with the V&H FuelPak. Others have commented that they got similar results with the PCIIII tuner.
