Default Exhaust question

I just got my first Harley and I know that in order to put new pipes I gotta modify some other stuff ( unlike my old intruder).
So can someone tell me exactly what needs to be done. I have a 2011 Electra glide ultra limited. All I want is a louder exhaust not too loud but louder then these stocks, I don't need more power just sound. Thanks.

Just a little louder, remove the cat, it will be the least expensive way to achieve your goal. You're not out much if its not loud enough to suit you after the mod, and you can still add slip ons.

If all you want is a little more noise, go the slip-on route. I've always been a fan of LOUD pipes, but on my latest scoot, I went with Screamin' Eagle Touring slip-ons... but you're probably younger than I am and may want a bit more noise. Search this forum and you'll find all sort of opinions and ideas, then I'd wait a bit and pay particular attention to the other Harleys you hear that sound good to you AND ask what they're using for their exhaust. Do your research and you can't go wrong with your purchase. If the only thing you add are slip-ons and don't do a full Stage 1, you shouldn't need to have your ECM re-mapped (but you could get other opinions on this). Just my 2 cents...

09 Road King here - I didn't want to do any performance mods or be stuck with a remapped or dyno tuned setup so I went with slip-ons. Cheap - EZ - got the sound I wanted. I did end up putting on a V&H Fuelpak because the bike was running a LITTLE to lean. (all super EZ work)

I'm the same as you on that also, really didn't want to mess with all that, and just went with the slipon, the only thing different i did was the FL-XIEDS-10 from nightrider to help with the lean factor, so far so good

Now when you guys say slip ons. Do I just buy the pipes take off the old ones and put them on? ( excuse me for being ignorant) nothing else needed?

Also what do decent sounding slip-ons go for?

How many miles do you have on the bike? The pipes will get louder the more miles you put on. I waited until I had 20K on mine then determined I wanted a different sound.

Just a thought, could save you a money if the break in of the exhaust suits your taste.

You have time on your side! Keep riding it as it is, visit the dealer to see what other riders have, you get HOG membership, so you could mix with local Chapter members and see and hear what they have. Mufflers ain't expensive, but there are too many of them to choose from. You have to make that decision. You could talk to your dealer about a full stage 1, which will include mufflers plus all the other changes that will give you significant improvements. Your first service is soon enough to talk that through with them!
