Default Rear Shock Air Valve

I am going to replace a defective air shock valve. Someone told me that you install the air lines by pushing the red doughnut in, inserting the air line, releasing the doughnut and then tugging on the line. Is that correct?

Just push the line in. You only have to push in the red doughnut when removing the line. Make sure the line is cut square so that it fully seats.

I have found that sometimes you have to pull the doughnut outwards to get the line to seat all the way in. Make sure you push the line in all the way or it will leak.

Yep the schrader valve core is probably bad.

The only other fitting that could go bad is the Legris type fitting (red doughnut) they can have a failure of the seal. but more often just cutting off a 1/4 inch of line and reinserting will get them to seal.

When I got my bike I kept loosing 5 lbs of air over a weeks time. I could not find a leak. I kept pushing the lines in all the way, trimed the edge of the line square, cleaned ends, and then I noticed that one of the blue plastic parts (the part that you push in to release the line) was not coming out as far as the others so I pulled it out the make it grab the line tighter. Problem fixed. I use the fittings at work but they are all brass and as soon as I find some all brass the size on the bike I will replace them.

I use them at work also. Not sure of the thread on the shock but the line is 5/52 and the hex is 7/16
Legris makes a nickel plated brass and a stainless version. http://www.legris.com/Legris_ecom/Re...deLangue=en_US

For those who don't know how these work internally here is a link.
