We were in Maggie Valley 2 weeks ago and of course went to Wheels through Time. Great place and yes, the museum was great. What other museum starts up bikes while you wander thru or take them out and ride them. I agree that the town will suffer as most of the people staying in the hotel with us were on bikes.

It was a great place to stay and ride the area roads which are many. We liked it because it was very small town and the traffic was light unlike other places in the area.

Stayed there on 3 different occasions and never went to the museum. Not that we didn't want to go but always got there late in the afternoon. I had been hearing the same rumor ( he was moving ) for the past few years as well. On my last trip I heard he was mad because the city was allowing an establishment to open up near his that sold alcohol. Like I said that was the rumor and not sure how true that is. I will be going back with or without the museum being there. It is a nice little town in the middle of some good riding areas.

Cool

Thanks for the reminder....
I'm positively gonna make it up there before he leaves!!!

Wife and I rode up to Asheville last Wed. Wound up in Highlands on thursday, and spent the night at the Inn right on the square. Built in 1880, I bet those old walls have many stories to tell.

Met a group while in Tellico Plains that was from Ohio. Been in the area a week, and made a trip over to Maggie Valley just to visit the museum. They were really dissapointed that it was closed that day...

Perhaps Colorado will be a fitting move for them....too bad the "local folks" won't wake up 'till it's too late.

The tourism bureau in Maggie Valley should be doing everything they can to keep that museum there. I was just there 4 days ago, my second time in Maggie Valley, specifically to see the museum. Maggie Valley is a nice place but there are many others just as nice. The museum was the draw for me and I think several others. While I was there I was looking to see what other attractions were in the area and didn't see too much else. Bikers spend a lot of money on their trips and tell their friends about their experiences, after the museum moves, that group will mostly disappear.

passed through Maggie Valley late afternoon on Sat. If the bikes stop going there the town will surely hurt financially.

I would hate to see Dale shut it down and move. I love to visit it and talk to him as well as his son because they are so down to earth and knowledgeable. Maggie Valley is making a big mistake by letting them go because in my opinion nothing else in the area is a draw for motorcyclists besides him and the riding in the area. They will surely miss them if they pack up and moves.
