My wife is having problems with her left arm and we are looking for an auto clutch for a 2008 Softail. Does anyone have any experenice with an auto clutch.
I have no personal experience but a buddy of mine has a drag bike that has an electronic shifter of some sort - not sure if it engages the clutch. There has to be something out there, I'd fire off some emails to a few performance shops to see what's available. Good luck!!
I don't know who makes it, but I saw a clutch product at Sturgis in '07 that was basically a centrifugal clutch. The guy showing it said that you could come to a complete stop w/o disengaging the the clutch by hand.
Did you Google Harley auto clutch?
This was the first hit. http://www.efmautoclutch.com/index.shtml
And a search here for EFM auto clutch came back with 19 hits
I hesitate to even offer this advice on this site, but have you checked out the new Honda VFR1200 Interceptor? It has an optional DCT tranny that is VERY nice. I've ridden the bike and it is incredible. It's one of those things that you think "I don't need that!" and then you ride it and you think "Why don't all bikes have this?"
There is no clutch lever on the bike, but the tranny does have dual clutches that work automatically. This is the same technology in the F1 cars and common on Ferrari cars now. Mitsubishi and Audi have similar units. However, the Honda VFR1200 is the first bike to offer it. Check it out and see if it suits her riding style. They make hard bags for the bike too so it is a sport-touring bike.
Trying to find a bike that will work with medical issues is a pain. Multiple surgeries moved me from my Ducati to my HD. I wish you the best of luck finding her a bike to ride that she'll enjoy.
