09 RKC with V&H Power Duals and Rhinehart Slipons K&N Air Cleaner
Have PCV on bike, but I had an electrical fire and it's in the shop getting repaired. The PCV may be damaged(probably is) and they recommend the HD download as there is no need for an aftermarket fuel management with my set up. I've had the PCV for over a year and to tell you the truth, I never noticed anything different when I installed the PCV. Is this fuel management talk all hype? Did I waste 300 bucks on the PCV?
The owner of my dealer told me point blank not to waste my money with the DL, all it does is raise the the RPM limiter some.... I does not richen it up at all, the EPA doesnt not allow it and they are not allowed to violate EPA rules
I left the dealer with V&H BSS, K&N on 2004 Deuce and download. About 2 years ago, I developed a occaisional miss - bike wouldn't fire a cylinder (maybe two). No sign of lean on plugs, no leaks, no damage to fuel pickup lines etc, electrics tight, etc. Apparently, the map couldn't keep up with condition at all times. Local shop told me it's clearly lean and put in PCV. Dude, the PCV feels like it EASILY added 10hp to the bike. And it SCREAMS. In fact, the shop, a buddy, was trying to convinve me to do cams, and the PCV gives so much power that I will only do cams to remove the chance of chain damage.
It you haven't ridden bike without the PCV, you don't realize how much a well tuned PCV is doing for you..
A download is a waste of money, they can not fatten up the fuel curve so it will run just as hot as it did stock, with a tuner you can make the motor run as efficient as can be.
I would use a tuner for sure, but hey it's your money.
Chief, regarding the wisdom of purchasing the HD "Stage 1 download," I would agree with Teqsand's dealer that it is a waste of money. That will cost $150, but a PCV from Fuel Moto will cost around $300, and it will have an optimal map installed for your setup. That will give you the ability to upgrade in the future if desired, and Fuel Moto can supply upgrade maps as this process happens with no additional charge.
Is this an insurance job? If so, I presume they would replace the PCV if it was damaged in the fire. What caused the electrical fire?
PCV is the way to go unless you have so much money you want to throw your dealer $200 for a simple download everytine you do something to your bike!! A PCV by itself will not give your bike power but rather it allows you to do whatever mods you like and optimize performance. Trust me there is no "hype" with fuel management - it's a necessity.
