I searched the threads a few days ago but didn't really find an answer to help me understand my dilemma. My neutral light got to where it would go from very dim, back to normal, back to very dim again and now nothing, in just a few hours. I've tried a jumper between the wires on the neutral switch on the trans with no luck. I've followed the wiring diagram in the service manual and all it shows is a black ground wire and a tan wire running to the light. Does the light have power whenever the ignition is "on" and the neutral switch just completes the ground? Am I gonna need a new indicator light assembly if just the neutral light is bad?
Just had to replace my bulb last weekend. When I got the fairing off and could
see the socket, it wasn't even cliped in tight. I think that water dripping on it
may have caused the failure. Anyway, cheap fix.
As they said, try a new bulb first. If that doesn't fix it, disconnect the harness from your switch and jumper the end of the wires together. If the light comes on nice and bright, the switch might have oil or something inside it. Then you will have to replace the switch.
There is a service bulletin in regards to the neutral light not working properly on 07's, something about re-torquing the sensor? You might wanna call your local dealerships the details.
Thanks guys. I checked everything and took the warning light assembly out of the fairing. The "N" light is toast. As luck would have it mine isn't simply bulbs. It is a small circuit board with micro LEDs. I'm stuck buying the entire assembly.
Im betting the the LED cluster for all those lights neutral blinkers and the like is the problem from what you discribed. Mine did it and the circut board was corroded by moisture. The replacement is like 30 bucks. But i had mine cleaned and resoldered by a electronic repair guy. Pyll it out and look.
I've got the same problem. I pulled the LED assembly and checked it out, the neutral led segment is bad... could be bad solder joints, but with the surface mount design, is hard to fix. I'm going to order the new part (seems closer to $50 from what I've seen) and then re-build the old one using regular LEDs that can be individually replaced.
