Default gaa! Engine Indicator Light...

'07 RKClassic... light came on. Book says 'take it to Harley' (not too keen on that advice). Upon further inspection, found a sensor wire cut/broke at front of the casing. I paged through the entire shop manual and can't find what this thing is (but a cut wire could certainly be causing my light and save me $2,500 for a diagnostic trip to the dealer).

Anyway, attached is a photo... anyone know what this thing is so I can narrow my research and figure out how to fix it the right way? Aspect is right side of casing. Wire crosses under the frame and attached to the left side (also to block- and I have a picture of that too... but fairly redundant) What the heck?! Have an epic ride planned next month, so have to get this thing square before I hit the road!

Assistance appreciated!

Thanks, Steve

Looks like the oil pressure switch. Will it start? Does it have any oil pressure? See what code it is throwing. Do a search and you can find how to retrieve the codes and what each code stands for.

Push in the odometer reset button while you turn on the ignition. click through looking for the code thrown.

That is how mine started out. Then it would be the engine light and the key light. Then the volt meter was up and down. Turned out to be the regulator. Ride safe

Thats the oil pressure sending unit. Computer thinks you have no oil pressure. Fox the wire and clear the code. Good to go

Thanks all- really good advice! I'll fix the wire, check the code (I didn't know how to do that before). Clear the code (I still don't know how to do that) and reassess. FYI, bike runs fine... it's just this sensor thing and the idiot light (I'm 99% sure it's not alerting me to anything 'real'). Thanks again!

Update/new twists in the "gaa! Engine Indicator Light..." string. Identified the parts, went to the dealer to special order... had everyone's interest in this. Seems the wire that parted is at the end of the master harness for the entire bike, and if I couldn't eek out another inch or so of wire, may have to rewire the whole thing! (BS alarm) I was prepared to find wire... Long story short, the part came in with a few inches of wire (didn't show it that way in the parts manual). Anyway, going to fix it today, but I'm not sure how to clear the error code for the indicator light (which will confirm I fixed it right). Can someone point me in the right direction for clearing this electronic code? Thanks!

here is a from start to finish.

1. Turn off power and leave off for at least one minute.
2. Turn power back on and restart bike.
3. In the unlikely event the “Check Engine” light is set, follow this
procedure to record and clear the code(s):
1. Turn main switch to “Off” and handlebar switch to “Run”.
2. Push odometer reset button in and hold.
3. Turn main switch to “Ignition”. Release odometer reset button. After
a couple of seconds, the word “Diag” should appear.
4. Push and release the odometer reset button. “PSSPTB” should
appear with the first “P” flashing.
5. Push and hold the odometer reset button for 5 seconds.
6. Record each code using the odometer reset button to step from one
code to the next.
7. To clear codes, press and hold the odometer reset button
(Approximately 10 seconds) until “clear” is dislayed.
8. Turn main switch to “Off” for 30 seconds.
9. Turn on main switch and start bike.

hmm... replaced the wire, did a fair job. Light was not on anymore...Took bike for a ride, light came back on! gaaa! (again). OK, checked the codes...this is what came up:
d1A9, then
PSSPt (which was anticipated first), then
P0152, then
P1353, then
End
Now, I have no idea what those codes are. Anyone know where I can reference them?

Bike is running fine. I hate this electronic stuff! The only thing I can think of is my stage 1 setup. I loaded a canned map with SE tuner a couple years ago. Bike has been running great ever since. Can something go arry there? That's the only electronic thing I've messed with. Anyway, I'm going to try to reset those codes... if something is off, I'm sure they will come back, but in the event my new wire did indeed fix the engine indicator light, may have to do that. Would appreciate a point to where I can find the codes though. Thanks! V/R, Steve
