I did the exact same thing. Today is 7/21/11 and I just got mine last Saturday 7/16/11. My fiance and I went camping with her parents after I got back from military operations. We rode around on a 2007 Night Train that was a super gorgeous bike and an awesome bar hopper or two hour rider. But that weekend, and the couple before that, we rode way more than we normally do. It was very hot and high humidity and some of the roads were just endless. We both were very uncomfortable and she ended having to stop several times. My hands were falling asleep, her back was hurting, and I was having to stop for fuel every 140 miles or so while everyone else was still running on a quarter tank.
We stopped at a local harley dealer with no intentions other than buying a cold drink and maybe a t-shirt for her. Ended up leaving the dealer three hours later on 2011 Street Glide loaded with ABS, Cruise, and Security.
I have ridden quite a few SG, RK, and RG but never really had an interest because previously I have never really went on extended trips or spent more than maybe four hours in the saddle. I did take my dad's '75 FLH down to the beach once, but that was a couple years ago. I also had my previous bike paid off so no payments was great. However, we have been riding more this past year than we ever have and I guess with the deal I got and the lure of having a brand new bike that was different from what I was used to, coupled with the outstanding deal I got, was just to much so we pulled the trigger.
We now have a bike is comfortable, I can lean more than I could on a lowered Softail, storage, music, and she has a backrest and doesn't have to stop. We left Austin, PA after I filled up and rode the whole way back to York, PA (a little over 200 miles) al in one shot with no problems. It was probably one of the best rides I have ever had.
They say there is no ride like a Glide, and I hav to agree. I will never be without one now. I would love to be able to afford two or three bikes like some of these guys, maybe another Night Train. However, being on a military budget and paying child support to a sponge who can't seem to keep a job dictates only one bike. The SG is that bike!!!
