Maintenance Intervals - Flexibility
I'm getting ready to go on a trip with my 2011 Ultra Classic. Currently, it has about 4,200 miles on it. I'm figuring the trip will exceed 1,400 miles. This would put it past the 5,000 mile mark which is a maintenance interval. It has Syn3 in all 3 holes. How much flexibility do you have on these intervals to insure that your warranty isn't affected? Obviously, everyone can't stop what they're doing when the odometer hits a specific mileage marker and run get their service done.
Dont think it will matter,Better if you have syn. oil in there.
If it was me,I would just change the oil and filter and check a few things but I do my own work so no need to take it in.

I would just do it now. If you are going on a long trip you will want to check a lot of the stuff on the list anyway. Plus 5k is just engine oil and filter change. Everything else is check and lubricate
I'm planning on doing the 5K myself. I just don't want to mess with that kind of stuff while on the road. Hey....I'm going to be in Maggie Valley, NC and riding those great curvy roads. There ain't going to be any time for wrenching.
I'm sort of in the same situation as you except I'm approaching my 10K service. I have about 9250 miles on it now and I expect that I'll only have time to put another 250 miles on it before I leave for Boone, NC in a couple of weeks. I'm planning on doing the maintenance early. In my mind I'd rather do it a little early than alot late.

Do it before you leave. My bike was right at 15,000 for service, but my wife's bike was about 400 shy of 5,000. I did both bikes before we set out on our ten day venture in the Hill Country of Texas and coastal ride home. I'd rather head out on a road trip knowing the service is done and the bikes got a good going over by me than chance it.
I stopped by the dealer yesterday to pick up some oil and a filter. While I was there I talked with the service manager about whether to change the oil before the trip. He advised not to based on the following...
- The 1K was done at 1,200 miles using Syn3
- Currently, I have 4,200 miles on the bike. That means that I only have 3,000 miles on this oil change.
- An oil change with synthetic oil is good for 5,000 miles.
- I won't reach 5,000 miles on this trip.
So, I'm leaving for Maggie Valley in the morning. I'll change the oil and do the rest of the 5K when I get back...actually, I've already done some of the 5K stuff...you know....the "inspect and adjust" stuff.
