I have what can only be described as solid sounding, metal type rattle in the rear of my 2010 Street Glide. I hear it going down my gravel road, or when I let off the throttle at higher RPm's and the exhaust shakes, and also when I hit bumps in the road. I've double checked my exhaust connections, and rear fender mounting bolts. Its not constant, just when hitting bumps, or on a rough road etc. I think I hear the same noise when I bang on the left bottom saddle bag support, but the sound seems to be on the right side of the bike. If I bang on the right saddle bag support, I really cannot hear it. Anybody have a similar issue? Suggestions? Thanks
I just found the left side saddle bag guard missing its bolt a half hour ago. That fixed the same symptoms that you had. It was behind the left side cover. Good Luck.
I've looked for things like that and it turned out to be something in one of the saddlebags rattling.
Hahahah, I thought the same thing. Emptied them and then took them right off. Still there. I'm now thinking it has something to do with the filler panel between the fender and bags. I notice at the two bottom edges, the panel is rubbing the paint on the rear fender where it over laps. It's tight, but may need readjusting.
My turn signal lightbar loosened up for some reason and was making a noise like you describe. There have been a handful of times I've bottomed out hard while 2 up and thought I heard a tire contacting something metal, I believe it's hit the bolts holding the lightbar. It rattled pretty consistently, especially on deceleration. Tightened it up, rattle is gone.
I have a rattle its not a metalic sound though. I've got it down to the trunk lid. I thought it was items in the trunk bouncing around so I emptied the trunk and sound is still there. Noticed that when my wife rides it doesnt make the noise because she is leaning on the backrest.
I had the same sound on my 2010SG. I'll guarantee it's the back saddlebag mount and the inside of your rear fender. Mine was only on the right side. Took a piece of rubber weather stripping I had in the garage and sandwiched it in there. If I remember correctly there is already a piece of black foam in there from the factory.
Start pulling bolts and reinstalling with lock-tite per the torque specs. treat it like a 10,000 mile service, go over every single bolt, nut, fastener, etc. you'll find the rattle and get intimately familiar in case it happens again
