Could be one of those little rubber pieces on the exhaust mounting brackets is cracked or missing or slipped out of metal bracket on bottom of saddlebag guard. Happened to a buddy a couple of weeks ago.
I had the same sound on my 2010SG. I'll guarantee it's the back saddlebag mount and the inside of your rear fender. Mine was only on the right side. Took a piece of rubber weather stripping I had in the garage and sandwiched it in there. If I remember correctly there is already a piece of black foam in there from the factory.
Ding Ding Ding....Rear Fender facia. It turned out to be my rear facia attachment. As you mention, there are two pieces of thin rubber sandwiched between the rear facia, rear fender and that metal tapped bar that holds it all together. The rubber strip on the right side was mounted too low to do any good. I ripped it all apart last night and readjusted the facia and put in new rubber strips. All Good! Thanks everyone.

No rubber strips noted in service or parts manual. I had my rear fender off recently and there were none on mine. ?? Just sayin'.
Yep, My factory book doesn't show the rubber strips either, but they are there. Placement is critical. A little too low and rattle rattle rattle....Tough to find too!

P.S. If anybody else does take theirs apart for the same issue, I made another tiny modification. Right where the facia overlaps the bottom side of the rear fender, the vibration tends to cause the fascia to rub against the fender and take the paint off where you cannot see it. Good spot for rust to start. I touched mine up and let it dry well, then put a small section of 3M clear paint protection film on the fender edge Its hidden behind that very small section of Fascia. I then put some commercial grade double sided taped between the two pices before tightening the bottom most screws back up. No more rubbing on the paint.
Same rattle here, no rubber pieces at all but I bought mine from another member. Manual didn't show any rubber parts which I thought was odd. Made my own rubber strips and the rattle went away.
Get it checked out... Mine began making some tinging sound on bumps the other day. Happened to be taking in for service. When the wrench got it on the bench he found my rear pulley had some weld cracked that caused my belt to nearly come off the pulley. End result is in shop, replaced wheel, pulley, bearing set, belt.... Bike was 2 weeks old and has 1200 miles on it. I'm not saying this is what has happened but dont overlook it either.
i'm happt to hear i'm not losing my mind. i hear the exact thing the OP described on my 2010 flhtk. its not typical loose things. gratefule that i now have something to investigate.
