How can wearing another layer keep you cool?

 

It's wet and evaporates.

 

I'm assuming that you really don't know. You soak the vest in water, and it works through evaporative cooling.

 

I've got one of the cooling vest and it does help alot. You wet it down and wear it over a t-shirt. Same as wearing the neck coolers but it of course works for the whole upper body.

 

The wife and i bought ours just before leaving for Colorado and South Dakota July 1st. Wife and i agree-- Best money we spent for the ten day ride.

 

They work well when the humidity is low and not so well when it's high. Right now in south AL, not much evaporation going on.

 

I work in a foundry and a few guys have vests that are filled with some kind of gel. Throw it in the freezer and once you put it on, you're good to go or at least 3 hours. Thats 3 hours working in a foundry. They tell me it helps quite a bit. Sorry I don't have a source, but I'm sure the Google machine can help you out with that.

Personally, I just soak my t-shirt in water and go. Not the prettiest sight seeing me in a wet t-shirt, but it keeps me cool for a while.
