I can't comment on the two Bub's you're contemplating, but I bought the Bub 7's for my Ultra based on a lot of recommendations and good comments from this forum. That was almost 2 yrs ago and the quality has been good and the sound is a nice deep "harley" sound. They are not loud but do bark when you get on them. I'd say they are probably slightly louder than when I first got them, but not much. I'm very pleased with them and don't regret at all making the decision to go with Bub's.
with my V&H Power Duals. They have an amazingly deep sound that is every bit as deep as the Monster Ovals and almost 2 db quieter. That's a lot when it comes to the sound enforcement. Also they have the 50 state EPA stamp on them so they'll be legal everywhere.
my experience with Bub was not so great. installed bub 7's in August, rode thru November, parked the bike for the winter (not by choice, all the ice and snow we had last winter was not rider friendly). took it out in march and noticed both chrome tips were peeling. Bub would not warranty them, but they woulda been happy to sell me another set at $105 (I said no thanks). I love the sound of the 7's but don't think I will be buying anything else from Bub. YMMV.
at some point I plan to install the V&H dresser dual headpipes that will let me just use any slipon I want.
2nd year on mine, bought the M-22's shoulda popped for the 7's cause not quite the sound I wanted, quality is good tho - no chrome peeling or anything. Will probably get true dual head pipes in the future to help the sound a bit.
^^^^^^^^
you're not the only one with issues on peeling chrome! Several have
When Bubs would not warranty them, and both Chromemasters and Browns plating quoted me 10 week turnaround to rechrome them due to being their busy season, I pulled the tips off, beadblasted all the chrome off, and painted them with semigloss black engine enamel and put them back on. 3 hour job mostly waiting on paint to dry. Even my powdercoater wanted a week to pc them black. It was meant to be a temp solution until this winter when I could get them rechromed, but I like the look and plan on keeping them that way... kind of a ripoff Rhinehart look...lol. that was in March and so far the paint is holding up just fine.
I bought Bub 7 True Duals in spring of 09 and they are nice, a good sound look real good and everything fits together good. But my chrome has been flaking off and they are starting to look rough. I don't think I'll look at Bub's again when I'm in the market for new pipes.
steveh326, I might have to take your idea this winter. Been looking for an inexpensive pair of used black pipes anyways, and this sounds the most inexpensive way to go about it.
I can't tell you about the 2 you're looking at. BUT my BUB 7s were great, a bit loud when you got on them. But that's just me. I've seen a few guys with plating problems.
