I bought a new RG in 2005, put around 10K miles on it. The only place I found it to be "better" handling was in a crosswind. Overall I didn't like the bike and sold it. INMHO there is no replacement for an Electraglide.

I love both bikes but prefer SG because RG it is too big of a bike for me... Why is it necessary for you guys to say one better then the other? to each is his own?!

Too big??

You realize both bikes sit on the same chassis, weigh within ounces of each other, and are the same size, right?

When I took RG for a ride, the fairing felt bigger and I end it up looking over it alot... also, this is my first bike with the fairing period so my experience might be different from yours...

Indeed - if one was really better Harley wouldn't sell any of the other!

The SG has lowered suspension, so isn't as tall as an RG or any other Glide.

This past Friday I bought my wife a sedona orange SG without the power pak- Since I ride a RGU, I decided to do a comparison test between the 2 to see if there truly is a difference between the 2 models- To be fair, I took the tour pak off of the RGU, and set both rear shocks on the bikes to the same psi (22)

I live off a 5 mile road that has approx 22 twisties ( 1 is a double apex and 1 is more like a bend instead of a full turn) on it and made several passes on each bike-
Twisties:
Hands down the RG handles the twisties better. I do have an 18 in on the rear of my bike and that did feel a little firmer than the stock 16 on the SG. That may aid to the fact that it did handle better
Wind:
I then took them each on a 20 mile round trip ride through the back roads near where I live. Wind was blowing around 10mph- Again, the RGU cut through the wind much easier, with very little effort and virtually no buffetting- The SG does have the stock 4in shield (which will be replaced this weekend). Which could have lead to the extra buffeting.
Looks/cool
I then took the SG to my local coffe shop- and got way more comments on the SG than I ever got on my RGU- I got home and parked in the garage next to my RGU, and yup.. in my opinion it is a better looking bike

So what does this mean.... If you want looks, by the SG... it rides fine and looks great- If you want a ride that handles better (IMHO)- stick with the RG

I have no plans of trading my RGU in anytime soon!

Ride safe-
So a Roadglide Ultra with 13 inch shocks and a full touring windshield and lowers I'm guessing, handles better than a Streetglide with 12 inch shocks, that reduce lean angle in the twisties. Then you say the Streetglide got more wind buffetting with the 4" windshield than the RGU with those lowers and big windshield. Wow! Who'd have ever guessed it. I'm glad you removed the tourpack from the RG to keep things fair.

Maybe a better test would be a Stretglede vs.a Roadglide Custom or an Ultra Classic vs a RGU.

Nice to know since I was on the fence about getting a RG or a SG. Went with the SG for the looks...
