I am sorry to hear about your condition. I know what you are going through. I had pain from a bulging disk in my neck and a bone spur so surgery fused my c5-c6 (anterior cervical discectomy) together with titanium.

That was two years ago. I was down and out for about a month but I actually rode my sportbike with my neck brace a couple of times... Weak neck muscles after surgery made it hard to hold up my helmeted nugget.

Recovery was serious business but I am glad I had the surgery done. I am 100% now and virtually pain-free (as long as I do my exercises.)

Good luck!

I herniated 2 disks a couple of years ago tried therapy and injections then eventually a lumbar laminectomy which worked completely ......... until I hurt my back again. For me the injections and therapy are worthless, as are over-the-counter pain medication. Prescription pain meds do work. Oddly, for me ridding is not as much of a problem as standing for long periods of time. I actually get relief from pain by sitting down wether on a chair or a bike.

Yup, C4-C5-C6 is what I'm dealing with now. I'm glad the surgery was successful for you, as it gives me hope. I wouldn't wish a herniated cervical disc on my worst enemy. Thanks.

I dont think physical therapy or injections are waste of time sometimes it so happen its not beneficial for the person will take some time for the benefits because its a lengthy process and results are good but very slow.........

good time for this old thread to come up...
I'm sideline with a herniated L3/L4.

Left leg has been pretty much numb from the hip down since mid-July--- numb except for when my hip hurts like "wow".
and sometimes my leg feels like warm fluid is running down it ( luckily it's only nerves and I'm not peeing.

so 3 steroid injections- the first in Zurich...a CTscan machine guiding a robot with the needle, looked cool on TV.
Here at home xray & dye method--- but man I can tell when the needle hits the right spot.

Surgery in about 3 weeks hoping for the best- they'll go in with a nibbler and take off the part of the disc that's causing the nerve problems

Have a couple herniated in my lower back, along with spinal Arthritis and Scoliosis. With out my Mustang back rest, I'm only good for no more tha 1 hour at a time, on a good day! With the back rest, I can go all day, with stops of course. Heal up, you'll feel better and ready to go, just take er slow. I've pulled muscles in my back before that lasted for months, the slightest bump or rough road just killed me. It's the type of shock to your muscles that make you see white for a second!

Not a good sign with the symptoms you have. I can relate to exactly what your saying. I've had the same symptoms, but I think yours are a bit worse than mine have ever been. Back in the day, I was contemplating surgery, Stanford Hospital. Saw all the Docs there was to see and the subject of Papaya Enzyme Injections proved to work in many cases. Of course there was a battery of tests first to see if your body would except it, if not and you did it, you would likely die! I did all the tests and all was a go, but never did it.

This is not fun to read!!! Also have a blown disk, L2 if I remember correctly. The anti-inflammatory drug, indomethacin, has worked good for me the last 10 months. But, it is not a drug that you can stay on indefinitely. So another MRI in two weeks and finally going to talk to a NeuroSurgeon. I'm hoping something short of surgery will help!

I've had 2 of the epidural injections done in August, and it's relieved all of the pain. I'm holding out on the 3rd injection until I start to feel the pain return. So for me, the injections were successful. I haven't been on the bike since receiving the treatment, so I don't know how riding will affect my temporarily pain free discs.
