Default Advice/input on Yaffe Monkey bars?

I'm sure this has been brought up before, but I'd like to gather some current advice, input and any available pics on Yaffe's Monkey Bars for my '08 Street Glide. My intent is to establish a good, comprehensive thread for anyone trying to determine exactly which bars they want for their similar bike (TBW = throttle by wire).

- If you have any good pics (preferably from the riding position, looking at the bars and fairing), depicting the bars on your bagger, please post them and indicate which size bars you have.

-There seems to be a lot of confusion/controversy over exactly which size everyone wants. Let's be specific, to establish the difference between the sizes. Specifically 10" and 12". I've heard several folks say they wanted something taller or shorter than what they ended up with.

-What did you do to facilitate the install of the bars? (i.e.- extended cables, wiring, etc)

-Installation tips and/or tricks?

Remember, we're trying to help out all of our brothers and sisters looking for input on these bars, so please let's not cloud the thread if you don't have firsthand input or questions.

Thanks in advance for everyon'e contribution!

I went with the 10's. Didn't want to go to far over the fairing. What I did was sit on two bikes of people who already had the Monkey Bars one with 10's and one with 12's. I'm 5'11" and the 10's worked best for me. I went on and ordered the supersize kit from Yaffe that way I knew the cable length wouldn't be a problem for the install. Yes you can use the stock cables but they have to be re-routed.

Thanks Kesean! This is perfect, definitive input and advice, just what we need to hear and see. There's so many of us who are torn as to what to buy.

Did you do the install or have it done by someone else? If you did it, what can you add about the install? How long can someone who's mechanically inclined and a DIY'er expect this project to take?

On a sidenote: What hand controls did you go with? They look like HD units. Did you replace the inner fairing? I don't see the mirror mount holes on it.

Very nice looking bike, by the way!

I went with the 10s on my 2010 streetglide. I was on the fence about 12s but like Kesean said I didn't want to be above the fairing. I'm 6' with a 35" sleeve and the bars are perfect for me. I went with Magnum Chromite cables and had to do +4 on length.

Thanks for the input cfabrizio. Starting to look like I'll be going with the 10" Monkey bars. What controls are you running?

Started out looking at 10s because of the whole hands above the fairing thing and not wanting to have extend wires or change cables. I ended up going with 12s after sitting on a couple of bikes with them. I'm 5'10" with long arms. Not saying one is better than the other, 12s just were better for me.

I have lots of pics here.

This is based on 12s
I ordered the bars, magnum sterling chromite cables, +8 clutch, and +6 brake (if you go with magnum don't forget the midline), poly bushings from Dr. Vtwin. Good to deal with. If I was to do it over I would also order the SE TBW. You'll need a clutch cover gasket and some transmission gear oil. If you tilt the bike over on the jiffy stand with the wheels about 1" higher you can pull the clutch cover without spilling oil. Get a set of long ball allen wrenches. Helps you get to places that are hard to reach. I used conduit lube to pull the wires. Throttle side was the hard part. You don't need to splice wires with 12s. You can still use your mirrors. Entire job took about 4-5 hours but its been a while and I don't remember exactly. Never seems as bad as time goes on but these were the toughest set of bars I've ever done because of pulling the wires past the bend. As long as you don't get air in the abs module you don't need to take it in to have the dealer put it on the digital tech to bleed the brakes.

The 12s fit me very well and are comfortable. If I was doing it right now I would order 14s though.

Wiring up a set of 12's now and the throttle side is definately a chore. Did you run the control and TBW wires at the same time or did you make two pulls? I've got the control wires in and getting the TBW is being a b**ch to go thru. Thanks in advance for the info.

Thanks!
I had someone Old Glory Harley do the work. Didn't know enough about installing them so figure let the experts do it. The hand control is still HD with PM grips. Yes I replaced the inner fairing through HD. You can get a replacement with or without holes when placing the order and comes back painted. Actually got it in from them in about three weeks.

12". Purchased the supersize kit from Yafffe, had my Indy perform the install. The 12's are PERFECT for me.

Went with harley chrome housings, master cylinder housing, etc. The grips are dove tail by jay brake and cables by Magnum (chromite). Added the Screaming Eagle TBW and poly bushings. Painted fairing from HD and fairing mirrors by PM.
