I have spent the past couple hours looking at new light for my 2010 SG. It seems like the debate bis between HID and LED, but I found a post talking about LED being designed off the lights we use here in Iraq. Well I know those are great so its where ill head, but at HD the LED is over 500 and the Kuryakyn is about 300. Any idea which is better. The Kuryakyn is the design we use here in Iraq and i like the fact it still looks kind of like a normal head light. Any ideas on who is better HD or Kuryakyn. Night brightness matters to me because i ride after work with my wife on counrty roads.
!st...Thank you for your service to us all.
2nd..I don't think anyones done a side by side with the HID against the LED bulbs yet. I'd love to see it if they have. IMO the Kuryakyn LED bulb looks like a cheap add on. Where the HD bulb looks more custom. I did the HID retro to the dual bulb Harley light. The price has dropped so much since I did mine its something everyone can afford to do. And should. The light output is outstanding! The guys I ride with put me out in front when we ride at night. (and not just because I blind them in their mirrors) LOL
I have never had or seen the Kuryakyn lights, but have read reviews that say they feel heavy and cheap? I can tell you that I have the HD LED lights on my new bike. The difference between the stock lights and the LED's is incredible. I got the headlight and driving lights and it is like having your own personal sun mounted on the front of the bike. I am going to get the blinkers and tail lights as well to round out the set. After buying these I will never have a bike with the stock headlight again.
Thanks for the info on the compairison. That was awsome. I got to say after reading this and then looking at the MRAP lights on the FOB today the day illum of the TL is great. Thats going to get my money, I've already been using the older version for the past year
After reading the side by side comparison I went with the Truck-Lite (Kuryakyn) based on the day time visiblity issue. The HD showed marginally better for night time but worse than stock for day time while the Truck-Lite was way brighter than stock in daytime with still excellent visibility at night.
My experience as proven that. I have been asked many times what my lights are when riding in columns, even when I have been side by side with the HD LED or HID lites. Night time is amazingly bright, just be careful coming up behind those polished rear semi doors.
I installed the Truck Lite LED headlight on my SG last night, and I am very happy with it. I strongly considered the HD light, but I ultimately decided to go with the Truck Lite version. The HD light is slightly brighter at night, but the Truck Lite light is much easier to see during the day (at least in my opinion). Since I do 90%+ of my riding during the day, it just made more sense to go with the Truck Lite.
As an added bonus, the Truck Lite light has a better warranty (2yrs vs. 1 yr.) and a lower price compared to the HD light.
