I was on my way home from work going about 40 mph and I heard a god awful screeching noise coming from my primary. I immediately downshifted to neutral and the noise went away and came to a stop on the shoulder and shut the bike down. I start get that sickening feeling and begin to think the worst crank shaft bearing went **** up.
After waiting about 15/20 mins I start back up no noise shifted to first and limped about 100 feet no noise went 2nd noise started back up back to N no noise so this leads me to believe that the problem is the bearing in the clutch pack is toast, but I 'm still weary about the crankshaft bearings.
Had the bike trucked home. Only thing I have checked for so far is primary oil and is ok so I didn't cook the bearings from lack of oil.
Clutch hub bearing or inner primary bearing possibly? Best thing to do is pull off the inner primary and check all the bearings and your rotor (just replaced a bad one on an 05). While you're in there, replace all the seals.
