The stock shield at 20" tops out in my sight line so it's gotta go. I am looking to buy a 16" smoked shield. Any suggestions about past experiences buying these? I just want the shield, not the entire brackets.
Even when I gat a taller seat, it'll still be annoying at 20"
i bought that one with the frame so that I could use the stock shield when its cold out, And the low smoked one all other times. The stock shield is in my line of sight as well, I just gotin used to it. I always have a problem with this being only 5'6".
The one in my signature picture is a HD 16 inch clear. I used a heat gun to soften the sticky stuff between the frame and old shield, pull gently. Still takes some time to clean everything up. Manual has good instructions. I am 5.10 and this has my face in the wind and the rest out.
I had the same problem....stock top edge right in my line of sight. I purchased a Long Ride shield, 19" with recurve, clear. It is EXCELLENT! I think they are on sale for $99 right now.....
They measure the 19 inches from the top of the headlight, not the bottom edge of the windshield. Rest the end of a tape measure on the headlight and measure so you can determine.
Cutting the windshield is not hard at all. There are U-Tube videos of it and yes I did do it. Tape entire shield with painters tape, in and out. Template the existing shield from horizontal chrome. Cut what you want off bottom of template. Hold and trace on tape with one edge flush to half way then move to other side flush finnish tracing. Cut with jig saw and metal cutting blade (high teeth count). Before removing tape smooth edge with emery cloth, starting coarse and going fine.
I'm not a fan of windshields, as I'd prefer to feel the wind. BUT there are times I'll use one. The stock RKC windshield was too tall for me and IF I have to use a windshield, unless it's raining cats and dogs, I don't want to look through it, but over it. I went with the 15" Clearview in a light smoke. Great windshield and suits me just fine.
