I have the set up you are talking about. 2010 Ultra Classic, SE pro tuner, big air intake, Fatstick muffs. and the 103 ci up grade. Went with the American Custom head pipe exchange thing. $299 with a $130 rebate when you return your stock pipe. Just don't turn the O2 sensors around, makes the bike run like crap. Took 3 days for the pipe to arrive and about 1 hour to dissassenble and install. Just remember to take off the footboard on the drivers side. Heat is all but gone, way more comfortable to ride. One of the best $$$ I have spent on the bike.
I understanding about taking off the driver's right floorboard, but when you said "Just don't turn the O2 sensors around," I gather you mean putting the wrong one in the wrong hole, right?
Also, I've got the EZ-UP center stand. Wouldn't that make it a lot easier than using the jiffy/kick stand for installation? Already bought some anti-seize and a new pair of exhaust gaskets... Head pipe to arrive Friday UPS.
Funny thing happened today... I went by 2 HD dealers and asked about head pipe take-offs when they do true duals and you'd have thought I'd asked about directions to a unknown destination. Geez! Kind of wonder if they're selling these for the platinum or maybe selling them to folks like American Custom.
I cant seem to find all the answers Im looking for, so Im asking forum members for help.
Im thinking about removing the cat (or finding a used head pipe) from my 2011 Road King Classic. Presently it has the Stage I Air Cleaner, SE Touring slip-ons and a Stage I download.
1) If I remove the cat, will the Stage I download be OK, or will I need additional tuning?
2) If I can get a dealer discard from a 2009 or 2010 touring bike, will that head pipe fit my bike?
3) Boy this is really stupid, but dont 2009 and up touring bikes have the O2 sensor holes/fittings on the head pipes?
Im pretty decent with a wrench, so any idea about how long a job this is and are any special tools needed, provided the cat has already been removed?
Thanks for your help!
1.With your current set up, I think you will be ok. Pull you plugs and check them, before and after.
2. I believe both years will fit but 2009 bungs are diferent size than 10's and up.
3. They have 02 sensors but 10s and up are different size than 09
My set up is: 2011 RK with Cariage Works slips ons, Arlen ness big sucker, EJK tuner and catless. I bought a header from another forum member, de-catted and kept my stock pipe stock. With the cat gone the heat is much less with a noticable increase in sound. My EJK tuner doesnt use the 02 sensors so I could have used an 09 pipe, but I would have had to plug the holes, currently I left my 02 sensors in to plug holes but have electrical connectors unplugged.
In short, get rid of that damn CAT.

Just mark them with a marker. If you put the O2 sensors in the wrong holes you will know it when you take the test ride. It backfires, dies, surges.....WOT it works fine. Crusing at speed it will slow down and even shut down 1 cyl. for a moment.

Good advice! I got things ready tonight for Friday's install (when it's supposed to arrive in the brown truck). Put out the green masking tape and magic marker!
Did you end up returning your stock pipe? just curious.
No, not yet and for the $100 net I'd get for it, I'll likely hold onto it in case a warranty issue or IF they ever start checking emissions... I can always put it on Ebay and likely get $100, so I'll hold pat.
I think mine is getting louder all the time after the mod.
A thought concerning the mufflers.
After looking at those pic's of the small size baffle in these stock mufflers (designed for cat use) I know I'm keeping them...just take a sharpened long punch or long Phipps's head and a couple hard hits would open that crimped baffle just enough for another hole that is straight-thru into the open chamber. Just a thought!
I think somebody wrote about knocking it open with re-bar.
