fuel filter shell
The 08's had the fuel filter shell recall which prompted HD to come out with the 62229-08A shell. I now see in the 2012 new parts reference that the shell is now up to 62229-08B. Sometimes the revision can simply be nothing more than a different vendor. However, I recently changed my fuel filter and noticed some stressing marks in the -08A shell where the U-clip slides through so I wonder if there is a different material or what. Anyone with a 2012 yet that is willing to pop their console off and have a look-see?

Don't think there will be many riders willing to take apart Thier 2012's to look at the shell. I had the orginal shell split open leaving Me stranded. It was replaced with the 08A shell, I have since changed the filter and shell (08A) about 10K ago. If the 08B is stronger, I will change it out again soon. Being stranded SUCKS! Do You know when the dealers will start stocking the new shell?

08 SG, dealer said they replaced the filter shell in 2010, broke after 1 yr of alledged replacement, now dealer said the black base for the shell is warped??? this should be included in the recall, another defective part. any comments are welcomed.

Can't believe the timing of your post about this. My 08 shell failed Sunday. I got a new shell and put it in yesterday. The plastic of the shell was broken right above the metal clip.
My bike wasn't in the recall. It was built in 08 after they changed to the new part.
I've seen other 08's that have had the shell fail resently. I bet there will be a rash of them as the life expectancy of the new part approaches.
I would advise all 08 owners to take a look at it before it leaves you on the side of the road.
