Bought a set when I first purchased the bike back in 09.
Finally got around to installing them a couple of months ago and then added the chrome trim that came out. Guess they help with the heat a little but I don't really notice that much of a difference.
What's he washing his bike with? Sandpaper? Steel Wool?
LOL! I'm assuming here, that he's using a wet soapy rag. Even though it's a chrome tint, it's a coating on plastic. So I guess he has those fine lines that some of us get on our black bikes.
I had them on my 05 and have yet to get them on my current bike. They made a big difference sitting at lights. On my 09 if I put my feet up on the pegs on the crash bars my right leg will get very hot even at 75mph.
+1 on the RJ originals. Have had them for 3 years and wife won't ride it without them. Took them off when i replaced injectors and thought i'd leave them off, but after riding it for a week, it's time to put them back on.
I really could not find a design I liked so I fabricated my own and had them powder coated. They attach over the frame/under the seat. These work great. I live in NC and it gets hot in the summer. These made a huge difference. Since I ride all year, I take them off in the winter when the boys appreciate the heat.
I am not a metal fabricator I used simple hand tools. I have never posted a picture so if this does not work maybe someone can help me.

They look nice with the chrome trim. I may have to add a set someday.
