being new to harleys (about 6 days now) I have a question about the drivability and what it is suposed to be like.
I bought a 2006 electra glide classic with aftermarket pipes. The dealer told me you only need to remap if you add the airfilter, but my main question is how the vibration and drivability should be below 2000 rpm.
if I am in second gear at 2K rpm it feels like the bike surges and anything below 2K rpm you feel the engine vibration.. is this normal?

Is there anything else on it besides the pipes? My impression from what you posted is that you don't have an air cleaner mod? What about any kind of fuel injection mod? It sounds like there's more going on than just swapped pipes and that would be my guess as to your surging problem.
On the engine vibrations thing, it's a Harley! It's going to vibrate, especially in the lower rpms. Being below 2000 rpms in first or second gear is no big deal but the engine will let you know about it. It should smooth out significantly above 2000 rpms but you'll still get a little feedback in the bars and foot boards. I think you'll find that 2000 is going to be the normal rpm floor for your bike, especially in the upper gears as going below that will really have it lugging. If you're used to riding Japanese or European bikes, it's going to take a little getting used to but if you're like me, I think you'll find it grows on you!

Good luck & Ride Safe,

sorry half asleep still I bought an electra glide classic not road glide. at any rate all the dealer said was aftermarket pipes (vance and hines slip ons) so I don't know if there is anything else going on, I will ask again while I am there this morning.
Not sure about the surges, but the vibration is normal. However, your bike is old enough that your front rubber motor mount might be soft and need replacing.
If you are moving and the bike is below 2000 RPMS, then you need to drop down to a lower gear. Keep those RPMS above 2000. If you are in a 45MPH speed limit, then you want to be in a gear that will get you at 45MPH and still be above 2000RPMS.
I've found on my Road King (with Stage 1) that in 2nd gear it... not surges exactly but certainly wants to be going a bit faster until it's above 30mph. It feels more like a nudge that... it... wants to... go... a bit quicker... in this gear... please. Kind of like a dog straining at the leash.
