Default DNA mamoth wheels. installing problems.

I just got DNA Mammoth 52 spokes wheels. I think I might have installed the front wheel wrong. I have a gap about .300 on the right side/front break side. The gap is between the fork leg and the spacer. The outer break pad on the same side is also dragging on the rotor. It enough that is hard to spin the wheel. When I took the bike out for spin its left a black mark on the lower half of the rotor. If I try to push the fork leg over to close the gab the wheel will not turn at all. it get pushed even more into the break pad. Any idea's what I might of done wrong? Thanks, Ben

It sounds like you might need a longer spacer. Also, you can space your caliper out a little to keep the pads from rubbing. It has been known that quite often DNA's rims do not fit exactly as they should when you bolt them up. Not everyone has had this experience, but this is the reason I do not sell DNA rims.

I don't believe the stock wheel spacers are the same size left and right. Could you have reversed them? If not you have some measuring to do. Figure out the width of the calipers from center line to center line. Then measure the width of the rotors. They should be the same. If not, you are going to have to shim a caliper. Once you get that spacing figured, then measure for the wheel spacers.

I put them back the way they came off the oem wheel. But the bike is used so I don't know if they were even right when I took off the oem wheel. I wont be able to shim the caliper because it rubbing on the right side outer pad only.

I also bought those wheels over this spring , i hava a 2000 roadglide and put the mammoths front and rear and the new brembo calipers up front and the center hub on the dna wheel was not the same width as the oem or my last set of carraige works wheels(tried all 3) I ended up using a bridgeport to machine down the calipers where they mount to the forks to space them correctly.

I wouldn't even know where to start if I had to machine parts. I hope i just did something wrong. If i have to ill take the bike to the wheel builder and have them look at it. Ben

This link might help: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/chass...s-rubbing.html

Towards the end of the first page, FastHarley gives a great walk through on how to measure and determine where your problem is. Also how to measure for shimming spacers. I would try this before you take the bike in - my buddie had problems with spacers and in the end he got a custom spacer made at an indy shop for like $15 - and problem solved.

Hate to see someone spend $100's when $10's will do

A little update. I went to make sure that the big spacer was on the rt hand side. Of course it was not. I took the front end off and switched it over. Now the rotor drags on the left side. So it looks like I can align the the rotor and caliper just with a small shim or two. I hope this works so I can have a proper spacer made. Thanks guys for all the advise and help. Ben

I called 3 harley shops around my area. When I asked for a axel shim they acted like I was speaken french. They couldn't find them in the books. One guy even said a part like that wasnt even made. I went to a local undy shop Charlie's on Arrow Hwy in Covina. The owner let me rifle though his parts bucket till I found something that might fit. I was looking for about 20 mins. He did even charged me for the part when I found one. The shim I used was .0772. Now when I spin the front tire it spins 2 full turns before it stops. Before I would have to muscle to wheel so it would even turn. I am going to ride the bike this weekend to see if the pads wear in a little bit better. Thanks everyone again for the advice and comments. They all helped in helping me figure this out.
