Default 18" Front Wheel Install

Installing PM wheels and have some questions.

1) Should their be a gap on the left side between the fork and dome/cup covering the bearing? Right side dome sits flush against fork. Feels like the axle has a very, very little shoulder one it. Is this all that holds the wheels on?

2) Should I replace the brake pads? They seem to have a lot of pad left. The wheels I bought came with rotors that are in great shape. Wondering if the older pads will seat fine or if their is anything else I should think about?

Included a pic with the front wheel on. I liked the rims before I bought them, but was not sure if I liked them on my bike. Now that the front is on - cant wait to finish it. Like DrV said, bling bling!!

Kuma,
I have an '07 Fatboy and am aware of the front wheel offset. What year is yours? As far as the brake pads go, how much is a pair? Can't be much.

There should not be spaces between anything. that is what the spacers are for. If you do have a space the wheel will move back and forth in that open space. Not good. No need to replace the pads unless there is no pad left. I prefer Lyndall's but never replace them until the old are toast. Lastly, it looks great. You need some kind of spacer in that empty space to make it "safe" to ride. Drew

Danny, Mines an 06. Do you have a gap like that also? What wheels you runnin?

All,

Got off the phone with Performance Machine and they said this is normal? The shoulder on the axle presses against the left bearing and pulls the wheel into the right fork.Tried pulling the wheel towards the left - no way, its not moving... Anyone else running PM's and have a ~1/8" space on the left fork?

Should I get a ss thick washer, a spacer, leave it per what PM said... I hate when this kinda crap happens... lol

If it's not moving then you should be good. The best way to find out is take it for a spin and see if the front brake works consistently. I have put on a wheel with the wrong spacers and the brae worked sporadically. If they say it's okay, it must be.
