Another set of buyers are those who want to retrofit the HK to their '05 and older bikes for one reason or another. In my case, I retrofitted the HK to my '04 because it was the cleanest CB/Intercom installation available. The Radio Sound radios HK used for model year 2005 and earlier are not available for separate sale with the integrated CB and seldom show up on Ebay or elsewhere.
For other owners of '05 and older bikes, the Radio Sound radios do fail from time to time and many of those owners prefer to replace them with HK radios since it's essentially a plug and play swap.
Like I said, be relieved ICA was able to repair your HK; they did the same for mine. And there is no better resource for HK information than Tony.

My 09 Street Glide was at the dealer on Monday, Stereo not working.
I watched through the service windows as they removed the front fairing, checked the speaker wires, removed and replace the connector on the stereo.
The tech shrugged his shoulders, put it all back together.
I new rebuilt stereo is on order and will hopefully be installed next week.
NOTE, "new rebuilt radio" they have problems with these things!
My work is being done under the extended warranty for the $50 deductible.
The service manager said this is a $1000 job without the warranty, guess what, I would not pay that.
