Default Screaming Eagle A/C Install Question

I received the Screaming Eagle Ventilator Air Cleaner yesterday and was looking over the installation instructions. I have a 2012 Street Glide and they state that the gas tank needs to be removed. Is that really necessary?

It does not have to be totally removed. You can just loosen the two front bolts and take out the two back ones and lift it up and use a piece of 2 x 4 to hold it up and then you can get to the two bracket bolts with ease. But just for your info the tank is cake to take off, its just 4 bolts and a quick disconnect fuel line.....

If you are doing the "Ventilator" make sure you use some assembly lube to hole the o-rings in place on the breather bolts or you will be fighting them for hours.......

I don't have the Ventilator but just installed a Big Sucker...no tank removal required. I think the SE a/c install is a tiny bit more involved as you have to remove more oem brackets (I believe). In any event I think they say that because you need to get at some bolts....but if you do search I think a few folks have said no tank removal needed despite what instructions say. Good Luck, I almost went the Ventilator route

Just did the Fuelmoto A/C last week on my 2011 Limited which is similar to the SE. I did not take the tank lose but the two 3/16 inch allen head screws are a pain to get a wrench on them. Took me about a half hour to get them out with a combination small 1/4 inch socket set with the allen socket in it. I could not get to it with a simple "L" allen wrench. Losening the tank may be quicker. You only need about another half inch clearance to get a full socket on it. My screws were not overly tight, just hard to get to. Going back on did not reuse those two holes so was a piece of cake.

It is prolly to remove the support bracket. I did mine without removing the tank. It is a little more time consuming but it can be done. I just didn't want to mess with lifting the tank.

I did my '08 without removing or loosening the tank. I used a 1/4" thumb drive with the allen bit.

I just purchased a new "H-D" back plate to install my existing big sucker on my new bike. Can anyone tell me if you need to remove the "support bracket" from the throttle body before installing this back plate? The new back plate that I purchased didn't come with instructions.

Thanks..

They have you remove the tank in order to get to the bolts holding the support bracket on (which needs to come off). I didn't remove the tank, or even loosen the bolts. Just get an allen wrench in there and take your time, it will come off without problem.
