The HD Screaming Eagle back plate says to remove the bracket. The Arlen Ness back plate apparently does not from another post I saw. The difference is how the new back plate attaches to the cylinders at the crankcase vent hole. The old bracket goes over the vent hole so unless the new bracket allows for that the old bracket must be removed. If you have an HD part number look on their accessory site and they have install directions online for most parts.

Thanks for the quick reply. Also, isn't there supposed to be rubber "O" rings that go one the back of the back plate where it bolts onto the heads? Mine didn't come with any??
Thanks..

I don't have my instructions with me, and I installed mine last winter. I seem to remember there were "o" rings, but I've installed so many different a/c during the years, I could be mixing them up. Check your instructions. They should be included on the parts list if they should be there.

Thanks for the replies... I got it figured out last night. That was the problem, the new backing plate didn't come with instructions or "O" rings, I had to pick some up.. Again, thanks!!
