It is pretty useless. But it is pretty. Like a Trophy wife. It is a Trophy Gauge.

I relocated mine to the frame (outside of fairing) neck area....still a useless reading.....oil temp gauge coming in the future.

does anyone know if HD makes an oil temp gauge that is a direct replacement for the air temp gauge? I would also prefer if it was a cosmetic match as well.

The Air Temp sensor hangs down free on a wire from the guage on my Road Glide, and it's accurate, bur so what?

It's just about as useless as an Oil Temp Guage, so it's still in there.

( Anyone want to REALLY try and demonstare the usefulness of an Oil Temp guage while we're at it?...)

It gives you the warm fuzzies to know that your oil is at the temp that it is, just use synthetic & forget about it, start the flaming.

I chose to run conventional oil, so the gauge is REALLY useful at letting me know if the temp exceeds the tolerance of my dino oil.

The gauge was REALLY useful in quantifying the difference an oil cooler made, then the difference a fan made, then the difference some other mods made.

The gauge is REALLY useful at identifying temperatures outside of "normal" and warning you to investigate what’s causing it.

The gauge is REALLY useful at showing the temperature effects of tune changes.

A little off topic, but my multipoint gauge has allowed me to quantify the effects of my prototype oil cooling system, make observations that disprove a lot of oil/engine temp/cooling myths, and has provided me enough evidence to apply for a patent that will benefit many oil cooler owners in the near future.

If you don’t want to run a gauge that’s cool, you are not wrong by any means, and folks that do run a gauge aren’t wrong either, we all have different ideas and our bikes are all configured differently. Now why don’t you share your reasons why the oil gauge is REALLY useless?

Yea that ambient temp gauge is actually kind of silliy if you ask me. As far as the oil temp gauge I just traded in my 03 RKC with close to 60k miles on it and never had an oil temp gauge. I just picked up my new 2011 Ultra on Thursday and as I have read so much about them running hot I asked the service manager about getting an oil temp gauge. His response was your oil is gonna be hot you don't need to spend $100 bucks to tell you that...I think he has got a good point there it will be hot and we do know that. just my thought for what it is worth

I know how hot it is outside-I don't need an air temp gauge. I DON'T want to know how hot my oil is-I don't need an oil temp gauge. Is there anything else that can be put in that hole?
