I know there are many posts out there on this post, and I actually thought I had it beat but its back.
I have a 2010 SG and I am 6'2. When everything was stock I had the worse buffeting ever. Couldnt see straight past 30 mph and freeways with the half helmet on was impossible. I made a few posts and lurked for a while and decided on getting the 8.5 Klockwerks Flare and it took care of about 85 percent of buffetting. I have enjoyed many nice rides since. Last week the OL bought us a new Sundowner Seat and the first thing I noticed was I have buffeting again. Not as bad as before, but its there and not pleasant. Can anyone make suggestions about how to correct this with the new setup. Do you think since we have the new seat I might want to try going back to the original 4 inch stock shield?
Obviously the seat has changed the dynamics of things. What is different about the new seat? Is it higher? Lower? Closer or further from the original seat?
Is every ride now bad buffeting or just some rides with the new change?
I would guess the stock shield will make it much worse. If the seat has raised you up any, then you will get more wind. You may need a taller shield than 8.5". If you are patient, you might get lucky and find someone with the next taller Klockwerks that would be willing to trade for your 8.5". I used to have the 6.5" KW's. I posted on this forum that I was looking to trade for an 8.5" and in less than one month another member contacted me and the trade was done. Best part is that he was about 2 hours north of me, so we met half way and made the trade. No additional $ out of pocket. Good luck.
Thanks guys. Seat brought me lower and more forward. Its pretty much all of the rides I get the buffeting again, but like I said before its not as bad as it was at first.
Yep, it could be fixed by deflectors or a change in the shield. Hard to say for sure. Do you have that fork baffle from H-D? There are faring baffles and also baffles for down alongside the forks too.
I have 3 seats different heights, 3 windscreens different heights
while riding, move your hand and feel what the air is doing, understand how a change in windscreen may have the opposite desired effect by creating a larger low pressure zone behind the fairing--- perhaps causing air to come up from underneath.
the larger the hole you try to push through the air, the more air needs to rush in from the top, sides and bottom to fill the hole, and the resulting swirls and eddies--- there is a cool free windtunnel app for iphone that shows how fluids move
if you wear a helmet, that has a huge effect- for one it makes you 2" taller and your head 4" wider
I use a HD half helmet when i have to, it has a little ducktail and the most stable helmet I've ever worn.
I have great results with:
ultra seat 10" screen
SG seat 8" screen ( little lower, little farther back)
Brawler seat 7" screen ( even farther and lower)
while riding, move your hand and feel what the air is doing, understand how a change in windscreen may have the opposite desired effect by creating a larger low pressure zone behind the fairing--- perhaps causing air to come up from underneath.
I think that's exactly what my problem is. I have a very large area of still air behind the shield/fork baffle/fairing wings. It seems like the air is rushing up over the tank trying to fill that void. I've got some fork deflectors on order and hopefully they will solve the problem.

Thanks for the help!
I'm 6'2 also with a long waist and fairly short legs. IMHO you need at least a
9'5" shield with a substantial recurve like LRS. With a Clearview you need a
10.5". Also the fork baffle and fairing wings combined help a lot.
