Just curious what the difference is? Do they achieve the same thing?

Short answer, no.
The Power Commander is programmable the XIED are not.

I've tried that, all I can get is technical specs and numbers, here is no laymen terms for me to understand the difference, and which system is better or why neither maybe be better, so, I asked here.

Before making the decision on my Xied I researched the forums for input and decided hands down on the Xied. Your mileage may vary but I am very happy with it. I have an SE Stage I intake, and SE slip on mufflers and get no deceleration pop good smooth performance and the plugs look perfect after several thousand miles. I can't say the power commander is bad because I never used it but I am completely happy with the Xied (Actually X14ied).

PC is far more versatile. You can make major changes to your motor and it is still useful. Add or subtract fuel in well over a hundred throttle positions and rpms. Also change ignition timing. Very user friendly.

I am a fan of XEID's but all they really do is add more fuel (richen up) to your engine.
It all depends on where you want to go with your bike...If you are just doing pipes and A/C the XEID's work great, biggest bang for the buck. The tuners are much more versatile as stated above but can be hit and miss on the canned maps. I may some day buy a tuner but when I do I will have it dialed in by a highly reccomended dyno tuner to take advantage of the full extent of what the tuner is capaple of.

So do you want to spend 100 or 500-1000?
