I just put 940's on my 06 Street Glide over the weekend and tossed the POS's stock air shocks. Big improvement. It also seems like I am riding about a 1/2 inch lower than I was. They are too firm for me solo. I weight 180 and I think they are rated for 225 solo, but two up (around 300 pounds) plus some gear and they ride fine on the lightest setting. If you ride solo buy the 440 standard spring unless you are alot bigger than me.

you should have maybe put on the 13" factory length for the limited and not the shorter 12" the RK and street glide takes?

To the OP: your deductions are correct. A longer shock will deliver a better ride when compared to a shorter model and for the exact reasons you mentioned - the longer model has a longer travel.
I've had both the 412's and the 440's and am considering a set of 940's for my SG. I like the fact that they are 13" in length but still give the ride height of a 12" shock. My 12" 440's ride substantially better than the stock air units and I hear the 940's will deliver an even better ride.
I also ordered the standard spring for my 440's. I scale in at 205 and ride the SG solo with gear. The heavy duty spring (HD) would have been too much for me.

I called Progressive a couple of weeks ago and had a lengthy conversation about the 412, 440 and 940. Since my bike is lowered front and rear, the 11.5" were out of the question due to the reduced travel on the EG. The 12" 412 and 440 would likely be harsh so went with the 940, ordered from Phat Performance for $525 and additional 5% off. Installed them tonight but haven't test ridden yet. Cranked them to the 1st groove and will go to the local HD dealer in the morning to get some highway pegs and look for every pot hole I can find. On these south AL country roads I should have no problem finding rough spots.

I am getting quite a collection of removed parts in my garage. Maybe I'll start a used parts dealership.

I had these on my 09 FLHX. They would bottom out on the first setting and on higher settings it felt almost like a rigid. So I took them off, changed the fluid in the OEM's and replaced the air lines with schrader valves and am content now.

For what it's worth, I have some experience with Progressive 412 shocks on my Sporty.

To the OP, There is really not much difference between 12" and 13". There is a BIG difference between Heavy Duty and regular shocks. I had a set of Heavy Duty and they were WAY to stiff to me. Felt like I was riding a hardtail.

I like the 412 regular duty shocks at the standard length.

Keep in mind, this info is all from my experience the Progressive shocks on my Sporty. I just got the Ultra about 2 weeks ago.
