Ok so as I said previous, I rode on a bunch of gravel roads and developed a vibration. I found the front motor mount to be bad so I replaced that and still had a vibration around 3000 rpm in the floor boards. I now have loosened the center bolt on the front mount and retorqued to 30 instead of 35 lbf. I also reajusted the cluth and aired up my shock a little. The vibration can now be felt at 2000-2500, 3000rpm is smooth as silk. The bike seems o be a lil unstable at speed too and feels like it my be pulling left a little. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
2,000 to 3,000 RPMS, but is it at highway speed? Or does it happen in 2nd & 3rd also?
I just put a H-D ThunderStar wheel & new Metzler on the front of my FLHX. New bearings, rotors, brake pads. The shake starts at 65, by 80 its scary!
I am having vibration problems all of a sudden too on my 08 FLHRCI.
Vibration is at any speed.
I also feel it when stopped at stoplights, and under my floorboards especially on the highway.
I thought about a badly balanced new front wheel, but wouldn't I feel something unusual in turns? And that wouldn't be a problem at a stoplight.
Bike handles normally. The vibration frequency gives me an upset stomach.
I have also noticed some of the rubber mounts for the exhaust pipes deforming and shrinking. I'm also assuming this is possibly because they are drying out and need to be replaced. could it be the same with the rubber motor mounts? Are the two made out of the same rubber?
I personally favor the idea of a rubberized motor mount issue, but I would like as much input on this as possible before I make a move.
If it is motor mounts, is replacing them an easy dyi?
Does the shake continue if you pull the clutch in and coast?
If I pull in the clutch and coast I might feel a little. If I pull in clutch, coast and raise rpm don't really feel it. If I pull in clutch and coast with motor off its smooth.
Driveline may be misaligned. If it stops completely with the motor off while coasting, it's not wheel balance.
Thans for the tip! I was thinking that might be my issue. I think I might install the Sta-bo busings in the swingarm and have the driveline alignment done.
This is the short version. I CHASED (for 6 months, at the time the bike had 40K on it) a vib on my 00EGC, changed checked and tightened everything I could get a wrench on, new tires, balanced tires, , bearings, motor mount etc, etc, blah blah. The last 2 things I changed at once were the rubber muffler bumpers and did a realignment in my garage. With in the first 300 feet of riding after these 2 issues were address I knew the bike vib was gone. The alignment did have me adjust both engine mounts. Good luck.
