Well, dead in the water for tonight !

Mounted the cams on the plate, installed it in the cam chest and bolted it down. I then mounted the crank and rear cam sprockets, checked for alignment and I'm out at least .020". Manual says to use the next washer size up which is .010" larger but even then I'm not sure that will be enough to bring it to .010" offset which is the maximum allowable. Is that normal to be out that much or did I miss something?

Good news is my crank runout is .005"

With that kind of runout you should have no problem doing a big bore down the road.

I believe the "washer" you are referrring to is the cam spacer; there should be six of them in the kit. They range in size from .100" to .150" in .010" increments. I assume when your refer to the "next washer size up which is .010" larger" you are referring to the .110" spacer. Just use the .120" spacer and call it good.

.005" is not too bad but before 2007, that would have been grounds for a warranty claim. I know you are not planning on gear drive cams but FYI, .005" is too much runout for gear drives.

Cool EZ Cam Question?

Hi all,

I have a dilemma, like we all do at times. I'm looking to install a set of the S&S EZ cams, either the 551 or the 583. Here is what I'm working with:
2008 SG
103"
SERT- going to get the TTS upgrade soon!
P/P heads with 2" intake, 1.625" exhaust, Hi Lift Springs, 10:1 compression (estimated, no paperwork to verify)
V&H Pro Pipe HO
Currently running a SE 251 cam.(2800-6400 ish)
This comes on way too late for my taste. I commute 140 miles daily riding solo, So- Cal Freeway at about **+ mph average (let's just say a little faster than the posted limit ). I ride two up most weekends. I do have some hot start issues, and don't want to fry my starter or anything else for that matter, hence the reason for the EZ cams. These were actually recommended by my local indy shop. I was favoring an Andrews setup and having some C/R's installed, when he told me about these.
So what I'm getting at in a roundabout way is which of these is going to work best for my setup and riding habits. I appreciate your input.
