Unhappy Billet Front Engine Mount Bracket

Anyone have a problem installing the new Harley Billet Front Engine Mount Bracket on a Touring or Street Glide.

It seems that they send the kit with one bolt too long. I ended up scratching my down tube frame, trying to get the damm thing in, until I realized it does not fit. It was a struggle getting it lined up, too.

Harley should have put the proper bolts in the kit. $600 to repaint the damaged frame!

did you read the directions that came with the new part?

were there two seperate sized bolts?

i cant remember on mine, but i do know that most things that HD sells aren't supposed to damage the bike during install. next time, ask on here before you force it.

who you paying to paint the frame?

The bolt is not too long. You have to pull the head to the right with a little hand pressure so the bolt will clear the right front downtube. It will move slightly on the front rubber mounts, then go back into position when you release the pressure. And, no, it is not in the supplied instructions, but this is the only way to get the bolt to clear.

Thumbs up Getting bike back tomorrow!

vtwin1340 - thanks for that tip. Wish I would have had that info before forcing this in. Harley should have added that to the instructions. I only found one other person on the web, that had the same issue as me, but he used the original screws.

Stupid_rope - I read the directions verbatim. There are two different size screws in the kit. I wish I knew what vtwin1340 said, before I started.

The issue with the paint shop, which was recommended by my local Harley dealer, was that they had to remove what I attempted to fix.

I read a chat to touch up the nicks and then spray with a top coat of laquer. I even checked with the local auto part store, to make sure it was the right clear coat. Only to find out that it was not covering very well. I painted and sanded, three times. Of course with the bike all taped up.

When the paint shop took off the laquer, it ate the powder coat. Didn't know that would happen. Now, they have to prime it and then repain, then topcoat.

All this because the screw would not fit in. Wish I would have thought to move the engine, although it seems pretty snug. I guess I would have tried that, if IT WAS IN THE INSTRUCTIONS.

I contacted Harley in WI to tell them my problem, since this is a brand new item for them. They are looking into it for me. That, at least, makes me feel like they are concerned.

I just hope, no one else goes through what I did. The worst thing about this, is that the bike is 2011 and has lots of additional chrome. It looks soooo good.

Hopefully the paint shop will make it look NEW again.

Got the bike back today. It looks new again. I tried to pull on the engine as vtwin 1340 had suggested, just to see if I could move it. It doesn't go anywhere. So if you purchase this bracket, purchase a smaller bolt, until Harley adjusts the bolts that come with the set. I've already contacted them and they are looking into it.

Bad news: Harley offered me $100 in store credit. I'm insulted to say the least. Cant even escalate my concern. I'm thinking lawsuit.
