Yesterday, I used strips of plastic cut from a bleach bottle. I have also used the fingers cut from a thin leather glove. Just cut the finger off and place it over the tire tool. I could not find any gloves this go around so I ended up with plastic strips.

I've used scraps of corrugated cardboard.

I've used these for years, and get some good tire spoons, the ones with the red handle.

+1 for Husky's rim protectors! Do a google search for "rim protectors" or swing by almost any Cycle Gear or J & P store. $7 to $10 a pair. Also learn to mount the new tire with a big rubber mallet. Quicker & easier than the tire irons.

Back when I used spoons I used pieces of an old garden hose slit down the side.

I use a 20 dollar bill. Hand it to the tech, and problem solved.

Get one of these and never use a tire iron again. Works absolutely fantastic! http://home.comcast.net/~prestondrake/mojoweb.htm
